Swedish for adults
6Melbourne Swedish School does not only teach school aged children, but also offers Swedish lessons for adults. The classes are conducted in small groups for beginners, intermediates and advance learners in the beautiful surroundings of the Swedish Church in Toorak.
Courses
The courses focus on building vocabulary and understanding grammar. Learning a foreign language is about practising the following major skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.
In class you will learn new words and phrases in authentic contexts. We use textbooks, read articles and classic novels for Swedish learners. Additionally, we practise comprehension and communication by listening and speaking about familiar and new subjects. You will continuously study grammar and practise writing. The courses are also about culture, comparing the Swedish way to the Aussie life.
Materials
The course material consists of a mix of different sources. Some of the books and novels that we use are the textbooks "Mål 1" (Natur & Kultur) and "På spåret" (Liber), novels for Swedish learners such as "Ondskan" (Jan Guillou), "Mina drömmars stad" (Per-Anders Fågelström), grammar books (Natur & Kultur), newspapers and Swedish radio. There will also be time for crosswords and games. These materials will be provided to you by the teacher.
Course book
Rivstart A1+A2 (2014) Scherrer & Lindemalm.
